Our Journey

From a wild dream to your mountain escape

2008 - The Spark

Elena Krythveil first stumbled onto this ridge during a backcountry ski tour. She spent the night in a snow shelter and woke up to the kind of sunrise that changes everything. Right there, freezing but weirdly inspired, she sketched the first concept on the back of a trail map.

2010 - Breaking Ground

After two years of fighting with permits and convincing investors that people actually wanted luxury in the wilderness, we finally broke ground. The construction crew thought we were nuts building this far up, but hey, nobody said visionaries were sensible.

2012 - Opening Our Doors

November 15th, 2012. We opened with 42 suites and honestly had no idea if anyone would show up. Turns out, when you combine insane mountain views with heated floors and a killer spa, people find you. Our first guest still comes back every winter.

2015 - Expanding the Dream

Added the west wing with 28 more suites and our signature Fireside Lounge. Also started the wilderness adventure program because sitting still in paradise felt like a waste. Our head guide, Marcus, jokes that he's taken guests on over 3,000 hikes since then.

2019 - Wellness Revolution

Completely redesigned our spa facility. Brought in thermal pools, a cold plunge that'll wake up your soul, and treatment rooms with floor-to-ceiling windows. Because if you're gonna get a massage, might as well stare at glaciers while you're at it.

2022 - Sustainability Push

Installed geothermal heating throughout the entire property and solar panels that actually work in winter (who knew?). Started composting, partnered with local farms, and cut our carbon footprint by 60%. Elena says if we're borrowing this mountain, we better give it back in good shape.

2025 - Today

We're still that same wild idea, just a bit more polished. Still run by Elena (she's in her office right now, probably arguing with the chef about menu changes). Still obsessed with giving you the kind of stay that makes you rethink everything. And yeah, we're still a little nuts.

Meet Elena Krythveil

Founder & Chief Dreamer

Look, I'm not gonna pretend I had some grand master plan. I was a burned-out investment banker from Toronto who couldn't remember the last time I'd slept properly or seen an actual tree.

That 2008 ski tour? Total accident. My buddy dragged me up here, I got separated from the group, and ended up spending the night on this exact ridge. I was terrified, then exhausted, then... something shifted. The silence wasn't empty - it was full of everything I'd been missing.

When the sun came up, I watched the mountains catch fire with light, and I thought: what if other people could feel this without having to almost die from hypothermia first?

So I quit my job. Sold my condo. Spent two years learning everything about hospitality, mountain ecology, and why building permits are apparently harder to get than mortgage approvals. My family thought I'd lost it. Maybe I had.

But here's what I figured out: luxury isn't about thread counts or fancy soaps - though yeah, ours are pretty great. It's about giving people permission to stop. To breathe. To remember what it feels like to be amazed by something bigger than their inbox.

We built Blaze Krythveil as a contradiction on purpose. Fire and tranquility. Wilderness and comfort. Adventure and rest. Because life isn't one thing or the other - it's everything at once, and we wanted a place that honored that.

Every decision we make comes back to that night on the ridge. Would this help someone reconnect? Would this honor the mountain? Would future-me, the one who was so lost and tired, find what she needed here?

Usually, the answer is yes. And when it's not, we start over.

Our Philosophy

Where Fire Meets Tranquility

That tagline isn't marketing fluff - it's literally how we operate.

The Fire Part: Passion. Energy. The kind of experience that lights something up inside you. We want you to feel alive here, whether you're pushing your limits on a glacier hike or pushing nothing at all except maybe a spa robe off your shoulders.

The Tranquility Part: Peace that goes bone-deep. The kind you can't fake with aromatherapy (though ours is excellent). Real quiet. Real rest. The mountains don't rush, and neither should you.

We're not trying to be everything to everyone. We're for people who get that the best luxury is feeling like yourself again. Who understand that real adventure includes knowing when to sit still.

Our staff isn't trained to be invisible - they're trained to be human. They'll remember your name, your coffee order, and which trail you were raving about yesterday. Because hospitality without personality is just room service.

We don't have a TV in the main lounge. We do have a fireplace that's been burning continuously since 2012 (okay, not literally, but pretty close). We'd rather you talk to each other, or read, or just watch the flames and remember what it's like to have thoughts that aren't notifications.

This place changed my life. We're kinda hoping it might shift something in yours too.
